Our Life in the Yellow Brick House

This week has been extremely out of the ordinary. I suppose it started last Saturday, when Kim, Krissi and I got to visit the Hard Rock Casino in Catoosa to see Craig Ferguson. It was a college dream come true! Kim and I used to stay up and watch his show regularly when we lived together at the Reserve. What great times those were! It was strange seeing him in person, but he was as funny as ever, and I really enjoyed myself. (His Scottish accent cracks me up, especially when he says "Catoosa"! Maybe you just had to be there.) On the way home, I also discovered that they have milkshake machines in gas stations now. Who knew?! Of course I had to get one and it was delicious! The weirdness continued on Sunday when I decided to let Kyle enjoy the Thunder game while I read a book. These past few weeks I’ve come to the realization that I am quite the push over. How depressing. I have always taken pride in the fact that I’m pretty easy to get along with but maybe that’s just because in most cases I do what the other person wants to do, whether I like it or not. Most of the time it doesn’t bother me, but some people take advantage of that and walk all over me. I started realizing this more and more a few weekends ago at Jessica’s bachelorette party. We had a great time in Bricktown, and I got to eat at the Melting Pot for the first time! I highly recommend the love martini, which was fabulous, as well as the dessert. However, I found the meat portion of the meal a little unappetizing because they serve it to you raw! Not my cup of tea. I would have to say this is the prettiest and best tasting martini I've ever had! This is called the flaming turtle and it was awesome! Anyway, back to my story. It sure was a rainy weekend. After all of the dry conditions around here, the precip was just one of the many things we were thankful for this Easter. I took Friday off so I could travel to Eureka Springs with my parents to attend Jessica Means' wedding. Kyle was working, so I thought this would be a good bonding trip with Mom and Dad. It was nice to spend some alone time with them, and I discovered some new things. (Like the fact that they take a light bulb with them when they are staying in a hotel room. Apparently the ones they have aren't bright enough to read by, so they come prepared. Who are these people?!) I'd never been to Eureka Springs so it was a nice trip. Jessica was married in the Thorncrown Chapel, which is a glass chapel on a hillside surrounded by trees. It was really beautiful and so was the bride. I have had so much fun the past several days working on some fun projects that are a little out of the norm for me. I wouldn't say I am a creative person and since buying the house, most of my creative efforts have been focused on it. So it was nice to do some fun things this past week that were totally unrelated. On Friday, I braved the CRAZY Oklahoma wind to go over to Kim's house and craft. We have been talking about having a craft night for a while and I'm so glad we finally got to have one. Trey was out of town, so we completely took over the kitchen and had such a great time! Kim got a Cricut for Christmas and she has been raving about it ever since. After using it, I totally understand. That thing is awesome and it's a scrapbooker's dream. I told my mom she needs to get one. I’m sure I’ve shared this before, but growing up I never remember seeing my parents fight. Not one time. However, my Dad used to tell a now infamous story about an incident right after they were married. Mom used to get up early every morning to make him breakfast before work (she is a better wife than I’ll ever be). One day, he complained that his eggs weren’t runny enough, which obviously really upset my mom and that was the end of her egg making. Even now when we make breakfast as a family, Dad is the one who makes the eggs. I say all of this to preface what turned out to be a pretty rocky day at the Fox household. Tom came to Stillwater to help Kyle tear out all of the old landscaping at our house while I was conducting Student Foundation interviews. I was so excited because not only did we get to start all over, but I knew that Kyle had been looking forward to doing this since we moved in. What a weekend it was! Kyle and I were feeling super productive and even though I had a full plate, I'm happy to report that our bathrooms are FINALLY clean! I started writing this blog and then realized it was going to be super long, so I'll break it up into two parts. Friday night Kyle and I had planned to go to the Kappa Delta softball tournament so I could support some of my Student Foundation girls. I was kind of in a rush when I got home, and I hurried to change clothes and empty the dishwasher. When Kyle arrived (late) he asked how I was not burning up. I told him it seemed warm, but little did I know it was 82 degrees in our house! Considering the thermostat was set to 70 that wasn't a great sign. An hour later after investigating the problem and having no luck, we were frustrated and hungry so we gave up and went out to dinner. For the past few weekends, I have had things going on, which means my poor house has been neglected. I'm sorry to say it, but our bathrooms are in desperate need of a good scrub down. That's what was on the agenda for Sunday, however, I got distracted. Tom and Kyle moved some of his stuff to Edmond and since he was getting rid of a reclining love seat, he asked if we were interested. Kyle loves anything that reclines so of course he thought we should take Tom up on it. This means getting rid of the red love seat/ottoman that was in the TV room. I really liked that peice of furniture. It was perfect for folding clothes because there was just enough space and the ottoman was not only huge, but it stored all of our blankets. Also, we got it from Uncle Terry and Aunt Cheryl when we moved. Luckily, it won't be going too far. Zach is moving into a rent house this summer and he is taking it.
