Getting Better

Image
It's been an extremely emotional month for a few reasons, but, for today, I will just focus on one of them. I had my follow-up appointment with Dr. Moxley in OKC on Monday, and she said all looks great. I'm healed from the surgery, and they'll continue to monitor my hCG levels for at least the next six months.  The weeks just after my surgery were hard. All I had wanted was to get back to normal life, but normal life felt so empty to me all of the sudden. My first days back in the office drug on as I struggled to focus on anything without getting distracted by the events of the past week. On Thursday, I decided to post about what we were going through, and I am so glad I did. The outpouring of support we have gotten from all of you has been truly incredible. SO MANY PEOPLE have been through something similar, and it has been good to see how they've all moved on to have happy, joyful lives. I know the same will be true for us. It just takes time. Finishing strong

On March 5, I turned 29. 29! How did that happen so fast?! I’m not sure, but apparently it’s no surprise to some of my coworkers. Sarah, you know who you are! Kyle sent me an extravagant bouquet of flowers on my birthday that wafted a lovely scent down the hallway at work. So naturally, many people saw the flowers and asked what I was celebrating. It was a mixed reaction when I shared that I was celebrating the last birthday in my 20s. A few people were genuinely shocked and responded (wide-eyed, I might add) with, “You’re still in your 20s?” Now I could have taken this one of two ways. I chose to take it as a compliment meaning I’m a mature, old soul who has wisdom beyond her years. This is partly because I’m an optimistic person and partly because I won’t give Kyle the satisfaction of admitting he wasn’t totally off base when he purchased that wrinkle cream for me. Nevertheless, here we are. I’m on the victory lap of my second decade in life, and I’m determined to make it the b...

The last nice weekend

Image
Our anniversary just happened to fall on the last nice fall weekend of the year. I wanted to spend Sunday in OKC seeing a movie and going out to dinner, but when Kyle found out the weather was going to be nice, he suggested golf. He recently joined the Stillwater Country Club, so he's been itching to play. Somehow it always seems to be raining on his days off. So he wore me down and I finally agreed to his plan. On Saturday night we went out to dinner at the Rancher's Club. We don't go there often so it was a nice change in pace. The food was wonderful and the only drawback was how busy it was. Afterward we stopped for ice cream and then headed home. We attended the early service on Sunday before hitting the golf course. Although we didn't play great, it was nice to be outdoors. After nine holes we decided to spend the rest of our time at the driving range. I need all the practice I can get! When we got home, it was still really nice so we decided to...

Accidents Happen

Well, so much for a quiet weekend. Kyle and I did have our date on Friday evening and it was wonderful. We went to Kyoto for dinner and then stopped by Marble Slab for dessert before taking the motorcycle out for a one-hour spin. That was the longest ride I'd ever taken, and I was hurting by the end of it. But it was a great night to ride, and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was the perfect farewell ride. Here's a pic after our date night. On Saturday morning my phone woke me up. It was Kyle's brother calling to tell me Kyle had been in a motorcycle accident on the way to work and went to the ER with a broken collar bone and some other injuries. He is really good a delivering bad news (maybe because he's a cop and it's pretty much a job requirement), so I wasn't too worried. On my way to the hospital, though, I had to pass the intersection where it happened and when the front of Kyle's bike was on one side of the road and the rest of his bike was on the othe...
